Brook Farm

The Brook Farm BNG habitat bank is a mixture of deciduous and riparian woodland, ponds, scrub, grassland and traditional orchards. Work to create these units started during winter 2023. However the cropping rotations were adapted well before to start the process of reducing soil fertility and pesticide residues. The site will deliver high levels of biodiversity due to the mosaic of habitats and wealth of established adjoining habitats. This will create a site which delivers levels of biodiversity greater than the sum of it’s parts. As Tendring District’s first habitat bank the site has recently been included in the ECC Local Nature Recovery Strategy as an ‘opportunity site’ recognising the potential value to wider nature recovery.
