HURDLES CARR FARM
BNG units on this site are created from floodplain meadow restoration in the iconic ‘Constable country’ of the Stour Valley National Landscape. Nature Based Farming is working to restore and enhance this beautiful farm, protecting and improving water quality, building biodiversity and creating a mosaic of valuable habitats. Habitat creation & restoration is starting in 2025 and will restore a much loved and valuable part of the Dedham Vale.
As with all our sites, we took great care selecting this land for habitat restoration. Hurdles Carr Farm’s location is key, allowing us to contribute to the wider landscape recovery with valuable habitats all around us, delivering the connectivity and scale nature requires. Unsurprisingly water is key to our work here, nestled against the River Stour upstream from the Stour Estuary and Harwich Haven. The land is cris-crossed with old ‘drains’, long abandoned but with potential to be excellent watercourse habitats and two additional ‘main river’ watercourses run through the meadows. With watercourses restored and scrapes renewed and more flood water held back water will be one of the key ‘tools’ we use to restore biodiversity of the meadows and the associated wildlife.
