Brook Farm Reservoirs

Brook Farm is on the junction of 2 brooks, feeding the Ramsey River which feeds into the Stour Estuary at Harwich. George Thompson realised we couldn’t grow vegetables without irrigation and plans for water storage were in place when he bought the farm in 1948. Since then we have built 5 winter fill reservoirs, storing excess water in winter months for irrigation. George’s son Michael recognised their additional value to wildlife and they and their surrounds have been managed ever since as the heart of all our conservation work.
