The Belazu Olive Project.

World Beating English Sparkling Wine? English Watermelons? Tree ripened English Apricots?

The reserve of eccentrics and daydreamers - at least it was and now these are viable, and very tasty, realities. So in our warming, changing climate how do we adapt and at the same time mitigate the damaging effects of climate change without inadvertently creating new problems?

A passing comment over a glass of wine, a tongue in cheek ‘what if’ in the wake of Brexit, as agricultural certainties were being upset and the Xyella virus ravaged Olive Groves around the Mediterranean.

Five years later we have not one but two Olive groves here in Essex, in partnership with Mediterranean foods experts Belazu. Exploring varieties and growing techniques in a low-input, sustainable system we exploit the warm, sunny, maritime climate of coastal Essex.

So far we have picked small crops and successfully preserved Olives for the table and begun pressing for Olive Oil. Watch this space to hear about the first English Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
