Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG) was an approach to development & land management introduced by the UK government in response to the biodiversity crisis and meet UK targets. The aim is for all developments to leave the natural environment in a measurably better state than it was beforehand. All but the smallest developments in England from November 2023 will have to deliver a minimum 10% increase on independently assessed pre-development baselines. Some councils and authorities are recommending 20% targets.

We are creating BNG units on the site of an abandoned modern intensive apple orchard which will be converted to a species rich wildflower meadow with wetland habitats to compensate for habitat lost on a proposed development. We will manage and care for this habitat under a 32 year agreement.
